2023: Ganduje Eyes Joint Ticket With Tinubu, Says North Behind Jagaban

“Ganduje, we have been told, has promised to deliver Kano to Tinubu if he gets the vice presidential slot. The big challenge for this is that it will be a Muslim/Muslim ticket”

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has endorsed the presidential ambition of Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

With this, Ganduje, who is the Governor of Kano, political caputal of the north, has, according to pundits, moved a step further into eyeing the joint ticket with Tinubu, a Muslim/Muslim ticket many said would be rejected by the Christian voters.

Displaying his alliance with Tinubu, Ganduje, however, said that the entire North was behind Tinubu’s 2023 presidential ambition

He said the time was ripe for the North to pay back Tinubu for supporting President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Governor spoke on Monday at the inauguration of an office for Northern Youth Professionals for Tinubu in Kano.

“Northern Nigeria has no option but to support the Yoruba race and Tinubu. If I ask you to give the name of one person who supported the Northern candidature of Muhammadu Buhari, it will be Tinubu.

It is time for us to show whether we are truly sons of our parents or not. This is the time and we are with Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“His Excellency, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje is part and parcel of this struggle, so we’re with Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“It was Tinubu who persistently stood firm and ensured that the people of the South-West supported Buhari from the APC primary up to the presidential election where he was victorious,” he said.

Tinubu recently declared his intention to run for the presidency in 2023.

“Ganduje, we have been told, has promised to deliver Kano to Tinubu if he gets a joint ticket with him as the vice presidential candidate. This, coming at a time of horse-trading and high-wired negotiation, is not unexpected but the major defect to this is that Nigeria has been more divided now than in 1993 when such nature of ticket between MKO and Kingibe flew successfully,” isiah Danlami, a political pundit said.

His view was corroborated by Abdallah Barau, a Kano-based politician who also confirmed negotiation between the Tinubu and Ganduje’s camps.

“He (Ganduje) may end up nominating a Christian Northerner if what he has brought to the table is enough for the Tinubu’s camp to give him a listening ear. But as it is now, all politicians including Tinubu, are building bridges across the country,  longing, hunting and gunning for votes,” he said.
